ABOUT
Mother Turtle started as a studio jam band at 2011 with band members Kostas Konstantinidis on guitars and main vocals,George Baltas on drums and backing vocals,George Theodoropoulos on keys and Kostis Hasopoulos on bass.
The band's influences includes such elements as Camel,Genesis,King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Rush, Marillion, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, Pain Of Salvation, Kansas and many more prog masters. Influenced by these great artists of the genre, Mother Turtle tried to adapt the different elements of prog rock into their own music, taking advantage of the artistic freedom that progressive music provides.
With that in mind Mother Turtle recorded their first self titled album at Sin City studios of Thessaloniki in 2013 by Kostas Kofinas and artwork by Aristotelis Mavropoulos.Odd enough the same year they received a personal invitation from Mike Portnoy(ex Dream Theater,Transatlantic,Winery Dogs etc.)and Sixthman Cruises, after signing in to a contest, to participate at the Progressive Nation At Sea 2014 along with 19 more newcomers of the prog scene.Sadly the economic crisis in Greece played its part and they weren’t able to be there and perform.
The year 2015 marked a new era for the band with new members coming in and jump right in the studio for binding together the music of what was going to become this year’s 2nd album release titled “II” again produced by Kostas Kofinas and artwork by Aristotelis Mavropoulos. With George Filopelou on bass,Babis Prodromidis on sax and flute and Alex Kiourtziadis on violin as the newcomers the band played 2 shows in Thessaloniki with Verbal Delirium and presenting for the first time after 3 years the new album with was released on September 2016 and has been a favorite of many prog rock blogs, websites and reviewers ever since. The bands immediate plan is to perform live as much as possible and has already jumped in the studio for composing music for the next album.
